Job description

We are looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) for a hybrid project, 2 days in the office, in Lisbon.

Mission
Ensure the operation, availability, performance, security and continuity of database platforms, guaranteeing compliance with defined service levels (SLA), security requirements, regulatory compliance and operational best practices.
The DBA will be responsible for the operational management of databases throughout their lifecycle, ensuring proactive monitoring, incident resolution, change execution, capacity management and support to application teams.

You Main Responsibilities will be: 

Operations & Monitoring
  • Ensure the daily operation of database platforms.
  • Monitor database availability, performance, capacity and integrity.
  • Proactively identify operational risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure correct integration with monitoring, logging and observability tools.
Incident Management
  • Analyse and resolve database-related incidents.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis processes.
  • Collaborate with Application, Infrastructure and Security teams in resolving complex issues.
  • Ensure compliance with defined SLAs.

Change Management
  • Execute technical changes to databases in accordance with Change Management processes.
  • Implement authorised patches, configurations, upgrades and changes.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of maintenance windows.

Service Continuity
  • Ensure the execution and validation of backups.
  • Participate in recovery and disaster recovery tests.
  • Ensure high availability and resilience mechanisms where applicable.

Security & Compliance
  • Implement and maintain access controls and privilege segregation.
  • Ensure the application of vendor-supported security patches.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, data protection requirements and regulatory standards.

Capacity & Performance
  • Perform database performance analysis and tuning.
  • Monitor data growth and installed capacity.
  • Produce optimisation recommendations and capacity planning reports.

Documentation
  • Maintain up-to-date technical documentation.
  • Produce operational procedures, runbooks and recovery documentation.

We are looking for a proactive and analytically strong professional, comfortable working under pressure in critical environments, with a genuine sense of ownership and service quality. Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams are essential, as is a continuous improvement mindset.

Requirements

  • Administration of Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Backup and recovery, high availability and disaster recovery.
  • User, role and permissions management.
  • Performance management and tuning.
  • Capacity management.
  • Linux and Windows Server systems.
  • Virtualisation concepts.
  • Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud).
  • Monitoring and observability tooling.
  • ITSM tools (ServiceNow or equivalent).
  • Automation and scripting tools (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Version control and CI/CD.
  • Database hardening, data encryption, auditing and vulnerability management.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in ADMO environments.
  • Experience in regulated sectors (Energy, Utilities, Banking or Telecommunications).
  • Experience in high-availability environments (24x7).
  • Knowledge of DevOps and DevSecOps.
  • Experience in multi-cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of SIEM, observability and advanced monitoring.
  • Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL certifications.
  • ITIL certifications.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data protection requirements.
  • Experience in database upgrade and migration management.
  • Knowledge of MySQL and other relational databases.
